Almost any operating system will work but a nix based system is HIGHLY recommended.

Other things to consider when looking for a web hosting provider.
- How long have they been in business?
- If you call RIGHT NOW do you get a real person the phone?
- SLA, TOS and AUP are VERY important be sure to read them thoroughly!
- A support ticket system.
- The amount of bandwidth you need of course and the amount of disk space you need.
- You also need to read about the OPTIONS that come with your account if you need extra e-mails the host may nickle and dime you on add-ons.
- SSH access.
- Frontpage Extensions (for those who use frontpage).
- PHP andMySQL versions.
- Backbone connections. Multiple backbones are a BIG plus and multi-homed even more so.
